Illuminate the Temperature of Manual Baths and Ultrasonic Cleaners with TempaChek™-LC2 Liquid Crystal Thermometer :
When presoaking instruments in an enzyme cleaner and manually cleaning instruments within an enzymatic bath, it is critical that the temperature be within the range recommended by the manufacturer of the detergent. Typically, protease enzymes targeted for breaking down blood and other proteins, work best in a temperature range of 100° – 125°F. If the temperature is outside this range, the effectiveness of the enzymes drops dramatically. As with manual soaking, with ultrasonic cleaning, instruments are immersed in a bath of water and a chemical agent (either enzymatic or detergent).
The proper temperature range is that indicated by the manufacturer, but typically even if using a non-enzyme detergent the maximum recommended temperature for ultrasonic cleaning is 140°F. Sonic cleaning creates a great deal of friction heat within the cleaning solution and will heat the bath. It is important to confirm that this temperature stays within the recommended range. The TempaChek-LC2 is a liquid crystal thermometer which can be immersed in a liquid bath. With the adhesive back, the thermometer can be mounted to the side of the bath, below the water line. This inexpensive and reusable thermometer will display the real time temperature of the bath, providing valuable feedback about the appropriateness of the bath temperature when compared to the temperature recommended by the detergent manufacturer.
